Three Good Guns
You got what it takes? You’ll be up against . . .
THREE GOOD GUNS
George James Custis, sometimes known as the Wyandotte Kid, had a compelling reason for making Fort Meriwether his destination.
In that one small town resided three excellent opportunities for the kid to make himself famous. Fort Meriwether was home to three men celebrated in story, and even in a song or two.
Outside the Lonesome Star Saloon, the kid hitched his paint — a horse chosen because it would be noticed and remembered. Making sure that the cleats on his boot soles struck the boardwalk at every swaggering step, he went up to the batwings, gave them a vigorous thump and stepped inside to announce himself.
“I’m the Wyandotte Kid,” he squawked. “I’m here to gunfight King or Weber or Latimer, or for that matter, all three of ’em!”
